“Our goal of local bargaining was to negotiate a fair collective agreement that would address working conditions issues through free collective bargaining,” said Craig Smith, President of ETFO Thames Valley Teacher Local. Thames Valley will not be able to ensure student safety, as more than 3400 of our employees are CUPE members who do not show up to work if no agreement is reached. CUPE staff include facilitators, early childhood educators, teaching assistants, school and central offices, technical assistance (IT) and maintenance. Our CUPE employees are critical employees of the Thames Valley District School Board. We respect the negotiation process and we continue to hope that an agreement can be reached at the provincial negotiating table. A preliminary agreement has been announced between the Ontario Ministry of Education, the Ontario Elementary Teachers` Federation (ETFO) and the Ontario Public Schools Association (OPSBA), as well as education workers and the Council of Trust Associations (CTA). ETFO will now review the details of the interim agreement and begin next week with EtFO leaders and local members. EtFO immediately suspends strike action until the results of its central ratification votes are available. All extracurricular activities outside the course day – including, but not just clubs, sports teams, etc. – are cancelled until further notice with effect on Monday, January 13, 2020. The Ontario Elementary Teachers` Federation (ETFO) has announced that, if there is no progress in the negotiations, its members will proceed on Thursday, February 6 (as previously announced), on Monday, February 10 and Tuesday, February 11, 2020, with a total withdrawal of services from Thames Valley District School. The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario (ETFO), which represents Thames Valley Primary Teachers, has announced that the next phase of their work on the rule will begin on Monday, January 13, 2020. We also hope that an agreement can soon be reached at the provincial level.
